Publications in Knowledge Management
Back to my blog, I would like to share with you one of the result from my research: the publishing trend in knowledge management.
Based on query made on EBSCO, I have found the following results. What you can see is the growing interest and the positive trend of publications mentioning the term "knowledge management".
The split between academic articles (peer reviewed) and magazines is interesting. It shows that "knowledge management", as an object of study, is now a strong research trend (mainly anchored in the strategic management field and in the information system field). So far, it seems that this trend tends to decrease this year...bad news !??!

I do not think that it is really bad news because there is also a lot of work done in special km fields like knowledge mapping, communities of practice, knowledge strategy that we have to count as well ... I think km will become a "grown up" in the next 5 years.

You have are observing a built in sampling error for 2006 publications as there can be a significant delay between publications and their indexing - this was sometimes 3 months or more. I'm guessing that if you run this same search again in April 2006 will catch up. However, in bibliometric work (as part of a thesis) at Lincolnshire/Humberside on trends in publication rates on Business Process Reengineering and Knowledge Management - they may have made a similar conclusion.

Hi,
I am currently doing some research into knowledge management and I am impressed at the chart you created above. I was looking to do something similar. However when I have been on EBSCO I see nowhere to run queries (I only have the option to find articles or journals).
Was wondering if you could offer some advice,
Thanks.
